In a recent social media proclamation, US President Donald Trump declared what he termed a “historic” agreement aimed at the complete disarmament of Hamas, marking a significant move towards resolving the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, this announcement is yet to be confirmed by either the Israeli government or Hamas, casting uncertainty over its immediate impact.

According to President Trump, the proposal outlines a gradual disarmament process for Hamas, involving the dismantling of its military capabilities, the destruction of its tunnel network, and the surrender of heavy weaponry, all under international oversight. In exchange, Israeli forces would initiate a phased withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, with an international stabilization force and a newly established Palestinian security administration taking over the responsibility for maintaining peace and order.

The roadmap reportedly stipulates a complete cessation of military operations as a precursor to the disarmament efforts. Following this, an international verification committee would supervise the dismantling of heavy weapons, tunnels, and other military infrastructure. Although reports suggest Hamas has tentatively agreed to the framework, actual disarmament preparations hinge on securing international approval and consensus among all parties involved. Nonetheless, Israel has not yet officially supported this proposal.

Israeli officials have consistently emphasized the necessity of Gaza’s full disarmament and demilitarization as prerequisites for any comprehensive agreement.
